It would be nice if the signs had more permissions other than the simple admin node. I'd like for my players to be able to create their own signs with specific tags such as %status and %loginlogout, but without giving them access to the tags that allow information such as the vote count or total play time. Only admins would get the latter, for example.

So instead of onsign.admin, there could be onsign.status for players and onsign.totalplay for admins.
