This can occur occasionally, specifically in scenarios where you have no/weak signal while it's performing the check. In a failed license check scenario, it will try again after a few minutes so wait a few and open the app again. If it doesn't fix itself, perhaps there's an issue with validating it on multiple devices?

the issue is Android 2.1 which seems to block your Market License check. I upgraded to Cyanogen (2.3) yesterday and all fine now. So I started testing around. All below 2.3 seems to have that problem.
You can try in Emulator (when you got Market working).

That's interesting, thanks for the info! I'll add it to my bug tracker and leave this ticket open until I fix it. Seems like 23% of my users are <2.3 so I'm surprised this doesn't come up more often.
