    What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?
    A directive that acts upon one of the original capture groups, doing regex replacement on it, and storing it in a variable. Something along the lines of:

    [replace], [replaceall]
    Possibly involving
    @var = $/regex/ ==> replacement
