Crafting and Resources
Crafting and Resources
Refined Resources
These are the resources used to create settlements, cities, roads, and development cards. They are appear in the chests inside of settlements if the dice rolls the number of a tile that the settlement is built on. They are also obtainable by refining raw resources that you've gathered. Additionally, you can craft resource rupees into refined resources (see below).
- Brick
- Wood Planks
- Iron Ingot
- Bread
- Wool
Unrefined Resources
You can gather these with the appropriate tools. They are ONLY used for crafting refined resources. The amount of unrefined resources it takes to make one refined resource is configurable; the default is 6.
- Clay, refines to Brick
- Log, refines to Wood Planks
- Iron Ore, refines to Iron Ingot
- Wheat, refines to Bread
- Fleece, refines to Wool
Crafting Recipes
All vanilla recipes are disabled by default. Enabled (shapeless) recipes are:
- Settlement: brick, bread, wool, planks.
- Road: brick, planks
- City: bread x2, iron_ingot x3
- Random Development Card: bread, iron_ingot, wool.
- Resource refining recipes (amount configurable)
- Resource trading recipes (shaped), see below.
Resource Conversion
You can craft your resources into Resource Rupees, which can then be used to craft any resource of your choice. Just like in Catan, you can trade 4 of one resource for 1 of any other type. When ports are implemented, you will be able to build a settlement on a port that will lower the refined resource cost of crafting rupees (3:1 for unspecific and 2:1 for specific resources).
There are five shaped recipes to turn two rupees into any other resource:
Ports
You can always trade 4 of any refined resource type for 2 resource rupees. However, as of v1.0, there are ports around the shoreline of the board; if you build a settlement on one of these ports, you can trade 3 of any resource or 2 of specific resources for 2 resource rupees, depending on the port you take. There is one 2:1 port for each resource type, and there are five 3:1 ports that let are not resource-specific. See the video above for more about ports.
Trading With Players
Trading with opponents is an integral part of Catan. However, since you are able to harvest resources manually in this game, I think that it will be easier to "go for" the resources you really need, and also to trade in resources for the ones you don't have. For these reasons, I think that trading with other teams wouldn't be that popular even if it was possible to do safely.
I had planned to develop a trading interface, with commands, to facilitate safe trading with enemy teams. At the moment though, this does not exist. I don't plan on getting to this any time soon, but I have a feeling there must be other plugins out there that facilitate trades that would be compatible with most plugins such as this one (In fact if you find one that works well I'd love to hear about it).
For now, you can trade with your teammates easily enough by dropping stuff for them to pickup, and if you really trust an enemy not to pick up everything and run off, you can trade with them the same way. I think most often though, you would simply try to kill each other. Note that if you die, you only drop half of your unrefined resources and get teleported to your spawn.
