LoreLocks is a plugin which allows you to physically secure your chests with chest locks and traps.

Default Locks

Locks come in 6 difficulties, 1-5 change the cylinder count of the lock and the 6th difficulty makes the lock unpickable, or in other words only the person which has the key can open the lock.

To create a key of a lock simply drop a lockpick on it.

Depending on the difficulty locks have a different amount of cylinders

  • Difficulty 1 has 3 cylinders
  • Difficulty 2 has 4 cylinders
  • Difficulty 3 has 5 cylinders
  • Difficulty 4 has 6 cylinders
  • Difficulty 5 has 7 cylinders

Then place it in the first slot of the chest (upper left slot) to lock the chest. Make sure to create a key by dropping a lockpick onto the lock before locking the chest if you want to avoid picking your own chest every time.

If you forget to create a key from an unpickable lock ask an admin for help, he can bypass the lock and open the chest for you.


Default Traps

Traps are items which will secure your chest even more, to add a trap to a chest place it in the second slot, right next to the lock.

They are triggered when a player fails to pick the chest, i.E. whenever he clicks the wrong cylinder and the lock gets reset.

Types of traps

The damage trap

Damage traps damage the player which is trying to pick the lock every time he fails to pick the right cylinder. Power determines the amount of hearts (not half hearts) which are taken away.

The explosive trap

Explosive traps create an explosion on the location of the player failing to pick the lock. The explosion does not damage any blocks. For the power of explosive traps check this wiki article.

The poison trap

Poison traps apply the poison potion effect to the player failing, the power attribute determines the level of the poison effect.

The power attribute ranges from 1-127.

    Adding doors was brought up to him and this was his response.

    "As a note to everyone, I am not going to add doors in the foreseeable future. Mainly because I would have to recode many parts of the plugin and make the code messy."

    I'll simply have to remain waiting with dozens of others for this plugin to be updated/replaced properly

    I actually suggest he add doors on his spigot page well over a month ago, said I would buy the plugin guaranteed if he added them. However I never received a response.

    I agree! Sindybad's plugin is not bad, but he left out doors and it just wont do for my RP server, players need to be able to lock their doors. I'll just have to hold out on someone updating this.

    p.s. the workaround is pretty simple. There's a problem with the default config's data values (i.e. they don't exist in MC; not sure how that happened). Will get Rock to put the configs we're using on his repo in the next day or so, if you can't work it out on your own.

    Wooooo! We got noticed! We're a small dev team, and while we would make no claims to be maintaining this plugin, we could probably fix any super-obvious bugs. I'll watch this space.

    Looking through the code a bit, I think (unfortunately) the way this plugin is "tagging" lock, key and lockpick items isn't compatible with 1.8- you can no longer put damage values on items that don't support them, the client will show a broken/missing image. As far as I know you can't fix this, even with a resource pack (or I'd be exploiting it like crazy for custom item textures...)

    It's possible you could fix this by configs only, just change all the "DV" options in the config to 0 .. I didn't test this and don't know for sure if it will break the way lorelocks scans for items, though. As in, it might make it so any iron ingot works as a lock- though it looks like there is also some lore-checking that happens, so maybe it'll be fine... ?

    I found a git repository that appears to add the new door types to this:


    I'm using Spigot 1.8.3 and locks show up as the magenta/black blocks too. Does anyone know a work around for this or can this be updated for 1.8.3?
